Independent on Sunday 31 Oct.: "On 8 November the trial of two men accused of murdering the musician Michael Menson begins". Mario Pereira, (Goan father and Mauritian mother) aged 26, of Edmonton; London is one of them.

From Nina Pinto: The induction has taken place of the Our Lady of Assumption, Deptford, following the take over by the Pilar Society of Goa. Amongst those attending were Bishop Charles Henderson; Fr John Cavanagh, Dean of Lewisham and Rev. Tony Lopes, Vicar General of the Pilar Society, Goa. Sunday services are at 9:00, 11:00 and 18:30. The Church is at 131 Deptford High St., London SE8 4NS. Next door to Deptford (BR) Station Fr Joe Rodrigues is the Parish Priest.

From Aires Rodrigues: Goa's Tourism, Fisheries and Industries Minister, Churchill Alemao arrives in London on 15 Nov. for the Earls Court World Tourism Mart. His Secretary, and the Director and Deputy Director of Tourism will accompany him.

Joaquim Dias (79) former Advocate General of Goa and head of Sanskruti Raksha Manch movement that is leading the anti-Pope protest, had quit his post and disassociated himself from the movement.

The Income Tax department raided editorial offices, owner's residence and the printing press of the English daily, "Herald."

The Goan Review Art Foundation has published a book of jokes in Konkani entitled "Hanskutleo" (Laughter) edited by Fausto Da Costa.

The United States Consul General indicated that there were several corporations in the US wanting to set up a base in Goa if the infrastructure is improved, particularly in telecommunications and power.

SBEC Systems AB, a Swedish Company was due to invest in a sugar refinery plant in Goa but has chosen Mauritius instead "because of its political and economical stability."
