GOYAN (Goan Young Adult Network), which is largely North American based, invites Goan youth (aged 18 to 35) from all parts of the world to be part of a millennium celebrations in Goa. A tentative schedule of events:

30 Dec. 12:00. Lunch: O'Coqueiro at Porvorim. Followed by visit to Dona Paula and Tiatr or Dinner .
31 Dec. 22:00. Millennium Dinner/Dance.
2 Jan. Mass at Old Goa. Lunch at Loutolim. Then Benaulim Beach and Dinner at Longinhos.
3 Jan 10:00 Visit Archives Museum and Central Library, Panjim. Lunch at Aguada then Sinquerim Beach and dinner at Titos.

Goa was plunged into a political crisis on 19th November as 11 ruling Congress legislators, including deputy speaker and four ministers, resigned reducing the Luizinho Faleiro ministry to a minority. On 24 Nov., Francisco Sardinha, leader of the breakaway Congress, was sworn in as the new chief minister of Goa following Luizinho Faleiro's resignation earlier that day.

Goa's Governor J F R Jacob has been promoted to Governor of Punjab. Mohammad Fazal will take his place.

4-year-old Laura Albuquerque who had been kidnapped in Dona Paula was rescued by the Police from her father, Harold Albuquerque, at Bangalore airport whist attempting to board a flight to Muscat. Harold, his father Bernardo and mother Prisca have been arrested on charges of conspiring to kidnap the child.

Relations between the Catholic Church and upper caste Catholic Goans of Cuncolim are strained as parish priest Father Mendes appoints members from the backward castes to the pastoral council - previously seen as the right of the upper classes who now threaten to reconvert to Hinduism.

What is claimed to be Goa's largest ever Consumer Show takes place in Margao Dec. 16-19.

Independent on Sunday . 21-Nov. Only last week 15 Indonesian pirates who had hijacked a ship carrying aluminium ingots were captured off Goa after a chase across the Arabian sea by the Indian Navy.

*BBC 24-Nov. On a day of fast-paced developments, Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro resigned ahead of trust vote in the Goa assembly and an 11-member cabinet headed by Francisco Sardinha, and comprising Congress rebels was sworn in, ending a week of turmoil in the tiny western Indian state. *The Press (New Zealand) 25-Nov. The extradition order for Eoghan McBride, from NZ, wanted in connection with paedophilia offences in Goa, expires at the end of this week. India's CBI officials are expected in NZ soon. The NZ Police say they do not know why it has taken the Indian authorities so long to remove him. (259 words).

*BBC 25-Nov. Three British nationals have been arrested in southern India on suspicion of involvement in drugs offences. They were said to be wanted in connection with a case pending at a court in Panjim.

* Hindustan Times 25-Nov. Goan cashew feni is to be marketed worldwide by United Breweries, producers of Kingfisher beer.
