Edward Thomas Alvares of London was pick-pocketed while he was waiting at Margao station to board a train. His wallet contained £400 and Rs 3000.

Trudy Couthino's "Mai's Recipe Book" is based on her mother's (Amanda) recipes and the practices of her grandmother, Julie Alvares (of Alvares Hotel, Nairobi). George Pinto, President of the San Francisco Goan Institute was in Rome last weekend to promote the cause of the canonisation of Blessed Joseph Vaz. Peace returned to Goa late last Saturday when the Meta Strips factory was sealed pending a Judicial review and the hunger strike was called off. The Order banning the meeting of more that five persons was rescinded. The composition of the Review Panel is waited with interest.
