All the 55 activists of the AMCAC, arrested during the trouble at Verna, have been released on bail The 4-member committee examining the Meta Strips Limited pollution aspects, is likely to submit its report this weekend. Meanwhile the Company has asked the Goa Government to pay its costs and it will abandon the plant.

.Goa-netter and renowned Konkani Writer, Damodar Mauzo has been elected as President of Konkani Bhasha Mandal.

Animal Husbandry Minister Victoria Fernandes, expressed concern at the spread of rabies. About 30,000 people die annually in the country due to rabies, which accounts for 81 per cent of the 37,000 deaths reported to WHO from all over the world.

The flow of charter tourists into Goa registered a 4.03 per cent rise over last year with 405 flights offloading 94,289 visitors. According to Director of Tourism, S S Keshkamat 356 flights had brought in 90,635 charter tourists during 1998-99 season.

A control room has been opened at the office of the District Magistrate, Panjim, to receive messages of natural calamities like flooding, collapse of houses, falling of trees, etc.

Ms Maria Sequeira has complained to the Director General of police that her neighbour, Michael Sequeira, along with the sarpanch of Curca-Telaulim, two police constables and two labourers came to her property on Saturday and cut seven branches of a mango (Mankurad) tree, without her permission.
