From Flavio Gracias: The Directors of the Goan Association are pleased to inform their members that the insurance claim for the loss of the clubhouse following the fire, has now been settled and a cheque for the net proceeds of £265,000 has been received. India's Defence Minister, George Fernandes, is getting the red carpet treatment during his stay in London 14-17 June. He will be officially received at Horse Guards Parade and inspect a guard of honour. He will visit 10 Downing Street, attend the Queen's Birthday Parade, an "Into Leadership" dinner organised by Keith Vaz and discuss India's defence concerns at the International Institute for Strategic Studies. The Government is hoping that he will sign the deal to buy 74 Hawk military aircraft.

Heavy rains, one third of the seasonal normal already, severely affected Goa last week particularly in the Bicholim, Sattari district. Over 100 houses collapsed and the train services on the Konkan railway services have been suspended
