Sardinha Ousted. Barely 11 months ago Sardinha broke away from the ruling Congress Part under Faleiro and formed the Government with the help of the BJP. Whilst Sardinha was in Australia last week, promoting Tourism and visiting his nephew, Manohar Parrikar the BJP leader, induced most of Sardinha's supporters, including Cabinet Ministers, to join him in defeating Sardinha. Sardinha cut short his Australian trip and at first refused to resign, claiming that he had the majority of the 20 seat Assembly. However, his weak position became apparent to him on Tuesday, 24 Oct. and he resigned. Manohar Parrikar is the new Chief Minister, the 13th in the last 13 years. Sadly, defections have become the order of the day. See:

15 Oct. Sunday Telegraph. D-mag, a new drugs guide telling teenagers that "stoned sex may be great", and advising them that most people trying cocaine do not become hooked, has angered anti-drugs campaigners. The guide is aimed at 14- to 18-year-olds and is to be distributed in schools and youth clubs. The "holiday guide" lists destinations including Amsterdam and Goa.

15 Oct. Economic Times. "DEEP DOWN EVERY PERSON IS A GOAN" McCann Erickson (advertising agents) have been appointed to handle promotion of Goa as a tourist destination at the World Tourism Mart to be held in London in November. Budget is about £38,000. "The campaign is to be entirely managed and co-ordinated by McCann Erickson in co-ordination with Goa's well-known entertainer and show-biz man, Francisco Martins."
