26 Dec. The Vancouver Province. Indian Defence Minister George Fernandes flew yesterday to the icy Siachen glacier in Kashmir to hand out 4.5 tonnes of Christmas cake to troops posted on the world's highest frontline. Fernandes distributed 7,750 pieces of the cake, baked by an Indian based in Canada, to soldiers in thermal bunkers on the 6,300-metre-high glacier, defence ministry officials said. "I prefer this icy terrain to celebrate Christmas instead of exotic places like Goa," said Fernandes, who is Christian, referring to the western sea resort state.
