28 Apr. Village Voice. New York. Restaurant Review. Bombay Harbour, 72-32 Broadway, Queens, New York. The menu explores the Ibero-Indian food associated with Goa, the former Portuguese colony south of Bombay. Typical is the excruciatingly good chicken xacuti (pronounced "shakootie," $8.95)-tidbits of poultry in a toasted-coconut gravy laced with black mustard seeds and curry leaves, packing a chile wallop that may remind you that globe-trotting Portuguese explorers first introduced hot peppers to India. The Goan standard vindaloo is offered in chicken, lamb, and goat versions, though not, alas, in its original pork form. No Indian restaurant in town has dared to serve it, though Bombay Harbour's recent T-bone tandoori special suggests the cooks are experimenting with beef. Goodbye, Hindu customers. http://www.villagevoice.com/issues/0318/sietsema.php

28 Apr. BBC News. The circumstances surrounding the detection of the first few cases of Sars in India could almost be described as comical. The first confirmed case was in Goa. Then three cases were found in quick succession in Pune where the wedding plans of Julie D'Souza were progressing fine until her Sars-infected brother arrived from Jakarta. Then Julie and her mother contracted the virus. Doctors ordered the cancellation of the wedding but were forced to relent as the bride threatened suicide and the groom used his influence to browbeat all those opposing the marriage.
