A substantial informative and insightful article titled Multicultural Goans in Canada obtained and submitted by Mervyn Lobo has generated an interesting discussion on Goanet. GV(UK) readers would find many similarities between the Goans in Toronto and in London and for that matter, many other places across the world. Currently, two questions have emerged as a consequence of the article. A) Why did so many Catholic Goans leave Goa for new pastures abroad while the Hindu Goans did not do so?
B) Why do so many Catholic Goans love Goa ever so much but from afar?
GV(UK) readers are most welcome to submit their replies to the above questions to Goanet.

The issue of caste among Catholic Goans has been widely aired on Goanet and recently, there have been posts pointing out that caste also permeates Muslim and Sikh communities, including the diabolical situation that caste functions even after death with different cemeteries designated for different groups of people within the Indian Catholic community. Clearly, many questions arise from such information. For example, does India, the emerging economic super power have much to be ashamed about over issues like bonded labour, slavery and the treatment of millions of Dalits? On Ch4, on Friday 21st September, a programme on this issue should tell us a lot more.

Finally, there has been much controversy about the differences in attitudes between the West and India over issues like homosexuality, same-sex marriages and gay couples. This is also true for Africa, the strict bible-belt in America, Iran, and Pakistan among others, where these activities are deemed to be unnatural abominations. However, some very interesting arguments have been presented on Goanet in a clear debate between emerging adversarial discussion groups.
