Australia: Carl D’Silva: Golf anyone? Join GOA !


19 Feb: Indian Link (Sydney). Carl D’Silva, a keen golfer, moved to Australia from Kenya nearly three years ago… he became a member of the Sydney-based Goan Overseas Association (GOA). The association has a proactive golf club… Last month Carl took home the Golfer of the Year trophy for the second year in a row… “Carl was certainly the hero of the 2011 season,” Alwyn Henriques, captain of the GOA-NSW Golf Club said… As GOA celebrates it 35th anniversary this year, the association is proud to have grown from about 20 members since inception, to 400-plus members to date. 636 words. click here.

Aldona: Not brake failure; bus conductor had charge of the vehicle


21 Feb: Herald. In a serious turn to the Calvim bus tragedy, preliminary reports have indicated that the original driver of the bus was not at the wheel, but a negligent conductor who was speaking on his cell phone as the bus rolled down to the river. In fact, the brakes of the bus were in good condition as it plunged into the river … the conductor was holding the charge of the bus, when the accident happened and he was on the phone unaware about the fact that the bus was going in the water… 382 words. Congress promises free water, power in Goa manifesto
20 Feb: IANS. Free water and electricity to families whose income is below Rs.1 lakh are two of the key promises made by the Congress in its poll manifesto,.. Among some of the major promises made in the manifesto are 50 percent reservation for women in local elected bodies, development of regional and Indian languages, medical tourism, reservation of Scheduled Tribes in the state legislative assembly, implementation of the prime minister's 15-point programme for minorities, enhanced connectivity through bridges and flyovers, helipads and a green field airport and a solid waste management system…
