Adelaide: Fun-filled fundraiser for World Goa Day

The third World Goa Day celebrations in Adelaide, an annual event organised by Goans, continued to make great waves, drawing a large gathering who were treated to some great family entertainment. It was a lively community fundraiser event, and was an instant hit with participants of all ages who enjoyed Goan music and food until midnight. The celebration was a party not just for Goan migrants, but also for their Indian and Australian friends who were treated to some excellent Goan hospitality. The event was held to raise funds for The Beth-Beth-Lehem Association, a not for profit organisation situated in Karwar, a rural area just near Goa. Speeding vehicle kills Oscar Relello’s father
16 Nov: Times of India. Senior citizen George Rebello was mowed down by a speeding car on the busy Miramar road. The four-wheeler disappeared without a trace .. Passers-by saw Rebello, who was crossing the road with his wife, Emilia, on their way home after attending mass lying in a pool of blood and called the police. He was rushed to a city hospital, but breathed his last after a couple of hours… Rebello was the father of social activist and prominent physician Oscar Rebello …  click here

Funeral Announcement: Roberto Duarte D'souza

6 Nov: Bobigny, France - ROBERTO DUARTE D'SOUZA (ex Mombasa, Kenya). Born 1947. Left us suddenly, but by God's grace, very peacefully. Beloved son of the late Estevan/late Esperanca D'souza and son-in-law of the late Pedro/late Theodolina Fernandes. Much loved husband of Sandra, cherished father of Etienne and Philippe/Marie Elodie. Brother of late Rosy, late Bernard/Bridgit (Mombasa), Victor/Liz, Joseph/Fatima (UK). Brother-in-law of Bob/Shirley, Raymond/Monica, John, Joseph/Maria, Flavia/Bill, Carmen, Sue/Sal (UK) and Maria/Quaid (Toronto). Uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews. The funeral will take place on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the church of Tous les Saints (All Saints) in Bobigny, France. This will be followed by the burial at the "cimetière intercommunal" of La Courneuve.
The family wishes to thank everyone for their messages of condolences, phone calls, personal visits, and support following Roberto's passing.

Perception of Goa's xenophobia has serious international ramifications

No visa to make mobile calls?

16 Nov: The Goan. By Sheila Medcrfot. There is a new law (only applicable to foreigners) where if you do not use your mobile phone for three months your SIM card will be deactivated. This is a government directive and affects people like us who are residents of India but take the monsoon off to visit family back home. It has come to our attention though that Vodafone are not warning their customers and are first taking top up fees of Rs500, Rs1000 and then deactivating their phones the next day. This happened to me and when I asked for a refund of the top up money I had just paid I was told that this was not possible… Government of India last September had released a fresh set of guidelines for issuance of SIM cards to foreign nationals visiting Goa / India … 468 words.  click here
