Loving mother of Barbara (Joseph) Costantino, Norma (Eshan) Khandaker, Eugene and Helen Correa. Cherished nanna of Faraaz and Shanaaz Khandaker. Beloved sister of Linda (late Manu) D’Souza (Goa), Olive (late Hector) D’Mello (Goa), Flavia (late Selwyn) De Souza (USA), Melba (late Felix) Pinto (Toronto) and Late Oscar (Esme) D’Souza (Belgaum). Loving sister-in-law of Late Louis (Emily) Correa (Toronto), Frank and Sheila Correa (Hamilton), Ethel (late Robert) Menezes (Toronto), Eric and Bibianna Correa (Hamilton), and Basil and Esthefania Correa (USA). Sarah Todd's Antares Opens In Goa This October With Modern Aussie Cuisine

11 Sep: Business World. Master Chef Sarah Todd is in love with India… The restaurant, which is located right on Vagator beach, has been named Antares after the brightest star in the Scorpion constellation (Todd’s birth sign). It seats 250 and Todd is the executive chef of the whole complex which also has a beach club opening out to the sand, according to her. “We have a charcoal grill upstairs and downstairs, there is a wood fire oven for pizzas,” she says… The restaurant opens on October 17 according to Todd… The theme of the menu is Australian cuisine with a hint of Asian…  click here

Smart cities or stupid citizens?
12 Sep: Times of India. By Vivek Menezes. Much fanfare since Panaji was included in the 98-city, Rs 48,000-crore Smart City project. But no specifics have been announced, no plans or blueprints shared with the public. So what is all the fuss about? "Smart cities are a con job," architect Dean D'Cruz said in an interview earlier this week, "While we do need to make our cities liveable through public transport, better communication, etc., the smart city movement is spearheaded by material and technology suppliers who offer easy solutions to lazy planners." That message was echoed by Rahul Mehrotra, one of India's leading architects, professor at Harvard University (and the late Charles Correa's son-in-law). He told an interviewer, "I have no idea what a smart city means because this is a universal term that has no real value except for the people who are sloshing capital around…"  click here

Skewed ratio shows ‘Asian sex selection’ in UK
110 Sep: Eastern Eye. Campaigners are calling for the government to acknowledge the "significant number of women having sex selective abortions” after new figures reveal Indian women in the UK may be terminating unborn daughters … Findings from the new study revealed that 110 males were born for every 100 girls to Indian women having their third child between 2008 to 2012 in England and Wales. The figure has alarmed campaigners because the general consensus is that a sex ratio of around 105 male births to 100 female ones is normal…  click here

Goa villages oppose realty projects, fear demographic imbalance
11 Sep: Deccan Herald. Fearing change in demographics of their native places, resident of several villages in South Goa's Salcete tehsil are protesting against the real estate projects proposed in their areas. Lavita Dias, Sarpanch of Carmona village, located in South Goa, resigned yesterday from her post after the villagers demanded that a special gram sabha be held to decide on a Group Housing Project planned by Mumbai-based Raheja Universal Limited (RUL). The special gram sabha, which was scheduled for the coming Sunday, was cancelled as the panchayat members were worried about mob fury against them…  click here
