At Shiva's, dirty dancing

28 Jan: The Telegraph. Shiva Valley, an open-air techno music haunt on Goa's Anjuna beach, is a destination devotees swear by. It's a shack actually, done up with psychedelic things. Right next to it is Curlies, a large restaurant that churns out all kinds of fare for hungry dancers. In front plays out the sea, its waves constantly trying to touch the contrasting rhythms leaping from the den. Just behind, cushioning it all from the world, is an area of darkness. Come evening, hundreds of devotees ride their noisy two-wheelers through the whistling trees and derelict walls to reach their shrine. The lair breathes to life with the moon, its prana strengthening with each passing hour, for many hours thereafter. Until the night can no longer contain the enormous energy, and it dissipates before the break of dawn… Stalls, manned mostly by young girls sell tea, eggs, bread and Maggi … Neha was one of them. She looked 14 or 15; went to school during the day and served bun-omelette at night…817 words  click here
