Poet, writer, and artist Tanya Mendonsa speaks of healing and discovery in her latest work
25 Feb: Your Story. Critically acclaimed author and poet Tanya Mendonsa has launched her latest work, The Fisher of Perch… After graduating in English literature from Loreto College, Kolkata, she moved to Paris at the age of 21 to paint and major in French literature at the Sorbonne. To support herself she ran a language school where she taught English to French to corporate organisations – this was also her first business venture. After 20 years in Europe, she returned to India to live in the river-laced village of Moira in Goa, with abstract painter Antonio E Costa, [Born Nairobi, in 1941] and two dogs and two cats. She wrote her first book of poetry, The Dreaming House published by Harper Collins in 2009, here. On football fields of US, a Goan lives the American dream
26 Feb: Times of India. An Indian immigrant who travelled to the US with his widowed mother and three siblings, when he was just 15 years of age, is living the American Dream. Having been elected the president of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), 62-year-old Carlos Cordeiro is now set to help others realise their dreams. Born in Mumbai to a Goan father and Colombian mother, Cordeiro’s grandparents stayed in Goa all their lives while he, along with his siblings, attended Cathedral & John Connon School in Mumbai until 1971 when they migrated to the US….As head of the US soccer—which has an astonishing 4.5 million registered members—Cordeiro will enjoy a celebrated place in world football…Cordeiro’s father—Pedrito Francisco Souza Cordeiro—and his six siblings were all born in Saligao…. click here

Mission against rabies to be intensified in Goa
26 Feb: Navhind Times. Mission Rabies-Goa has decided to scale up its activities and intensify surveillance by enhancing participation of panchayats and municipalities in the state to eliminate rabies. After three years of partnering with the state department, the programme now aims to make Goa achieve the ‘zero rabies death’ target as early as possible by implementing phase two of the mission… In its renewed proposal to the state government, the Mission Rabies-Goa aims to boost surveillance and establish an integrated bite case management system… Latest technology has also been adopted in the programme, where dogs are mapped on an app allowing for ‘strategic’ response on rabies… Mission Rabies CEO Dr Luke Gamble said, “We want to root out the disease… click here

Editorial: Problems In Giving Every House A Toilet
26 Feb: Navhind Times. The state government has set October 2, 2018 as the deadline to make Goa open defecation free (ODF). Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had recently said that to make Goa ODF the state would have to construct around 72,000 toilets, mostly in rural areas. The target though too optimistic, could have been achieved had the work on construction of toilets begun forthwith, but with no signs of work starting in the near future, the state may not be able to meet the deadline… click here

Almost 3,000 kilos of beef destroyed following seizures in last 3 months
26 Feb: The Goan. Chief Minister and Home Minister Manohar Parrikar disclosed that a total of around 3,000 kg beef was destroyed since last Christmas in three different raids conducted by Goa Police. Don’t spoil Goa’s beautiful beaches
26 Feb: Herald. By Sally Hart. We have been coming to Goa for 20 years and absolutely love it here. However, we are so sad to see tourists drinking and throwing bottles into the sea, also letting their children play with glass bottles. The pictures above are of my water shoes I was wearing in the sea at Baga beach. The glass went straight through my shoe and into my foot. As a result I will not be going in the sea again this year. click here
