Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in a video message Friday thanked his wellwishers saying he will continue to work for the wellbeing of the state. “As I resume my work, I thank all my well wishers for the prayers and blessings which gave me much needed support and strength to recover,” the chief minister said… Earlier today, Parrikar prayed at the Devaki Krishna temple and visited the Mahalaxmi temple… He also chaired a meeting of senior bureaucrats and police officers … with link to the video …  click here

16 Jun: Herald. Joaquim Correia’s latest book has already evoked a good response from not only Goans living in Goa, but the Goan diaspora. There have already been calls for an English version of the book… In the month of May 2018, the book, ‘A Última Dança em Goa: Música popular nos últimos anos do Estado Português da Índia’, written by Joaquim Correia and published by Ideias com História, was launched in Casa de Goa in Lisbon, Portugal… ‘The Last Dance in Goa: Popular music in the last years of the State of Portuguese India’ is based on the memories of people who lived through and enjoyed that period, and after consulting journals and newspapers like O Heraldo, A Vida, Diário da Noite and many others.The book also mentions musicians that were relevant outside Goa, especially in Bombay, Mozambique and Portugal, and Remo Fernandes and the music of the sixties in Goa,” explains Joaquim. Tourism department for day and night surveillance on the beach

15 Jun: Times of India. Department of tourism is exploring possibilities of extending beach patrolling between dusk and dawn in order to prevent untoward mishaps and un-warranted activities which is affecting Goa’s image as a safe tourism destination. During a meeting convened on Friday the minister of tourism, Manohar Azgaonkar strongly reiterated that measures have to be put in place through law enforcement, surveillance, awareness drives etc. to step up safety and security measures for tourists visiting Goa…  click here

Government to Introduce own App-Based Taxi Service in Goa

13 Jun: Coherent Chronicle. The Government aims to provide efficient transportation system to tourist by introduction of new app-based taxi service. GTDC’s Managing Director Nikhil Desai reported that the taxi operators, who hold license to run cabs in Goa, were eligible to register for the new transport service which will be launched shortly. The app-based taxis would operate from locations such as GTDC residencies (hotels) across the state, the Mormugao Port Trust jetty where cruise vessels anchor, the airport and the St Monica Jetty in Panaji, besides other spots. “The taxi operators will have to follow the online queuing system, based on which a ride will be confirmed or assigned to them,” Desai said…  click here

Lemos case: Govt seeks details of Ryan arrest in Dubai

After receiving a representation from the mother of Ryan de Souza (photo), stating that her son has been made a scapegoat and asking for details of his arrest, the Goa NRI commission has written to the Consul General of India in Dubai asking for a report in the case… NRI director Anthony D’Souza has asked the consulate to forward all factual details to the Goa government to enable it to inform Veronica de Souza, the mother of Ryan on the status…  click here

Husband of missing tourist questions safety of foreigners in India

16 Jun: Herald. In pursuit of justice for his wife who was killed in Kerala, Irish national Andrew Jordan found his way to Goa in a bid to help fellow national Andrea Brannigan follow up the case of her daughter Danielle McLaughlin, who was allegedly raped and murdered by a local youth in Canacona last year. Jordan raised strong apprehensions over the safety of foreign nationals in the country claiming he will approach the Central government just as other families of foreign tourists who died in Goa have done, demanding an unbiased and independent investigation in the deaths…  click here
15 Jun: Times of India. McLaughlin trial: 2 witnesses depose. The south Goa additional sessions court on Thursday recorded the deposition of two witnesses in the alleged rape and murder of British tourist Danielle Maria Theresa McLaughlin, in March 2017… The trial in the case commenced on April 6 this year. On April 24, additional sessions judge Sayanora Laad barred the media from reporting court proceedings. She also directed reporters not to mention the names of the witnesses being examined or summoned for depositions…  click here
15 Jun: Times of India. Final arguments in Felix Dahl case next week. The case didn’t come up for hearing at the high court on Thursday, even as representatives from the Embassy of Finland in New Delhi travelled to Goa in anticipation of justice. Dahl’s mother Minna Pirhonen is seeking transfer of the case to the CBI. In her petition, Pirhonen said she didn’t want Goa police to conduct any further investigation and wanted the case to be transferred to CBI… click here.

16 Jun: Navhind Times. ‘The Goan Woman Chef of the Year’ competition is all set to challenge the culinary skills of Goan ladies. The competition aims to promote a culinary passion and taste for excellence in the participants, besides reviving authentic recipes and dishes. “Despite the last year’s event being the first, it was a grand success and also a great learning experience for us. 67 women contestants travelled from across the state to showcase their culinary talents, a majority of them being housewives. The authentic flavours brought forth were a real treat not just for the taste buds but for the eyes as well.
