Obituary

Death: Oliver Fernandes. Leicester, UK. Ex Nairobi (Goan Housing Estate)

12 June 2022. Leicester, UK. “Oliver” (Oliveiro) Joao Beato Fernandes. Aged 81. Passed away peacefully in hospital with his wife, Yvonne by his side. He was one of eleven children of Dominic & Angela Fernandes. A much-loved Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle & Grandfather, Oliver always put his family first. Survived by Yvonne, together for 58 years, children Oliver Jnr & Francine, their spouses Alison & Ian & his grandchildren, Matthew, Joseph & Kimaya. His surviving family, including in-laws, are Phil & Lino D’Souza, Sarah Fernandes, Derek Sequeira, Connie & Wallace Pinto & Mina Fernandes. The family moved from Nairobi to the UK in 1987. He worked hard as an Accountant, retiring in 2013. Oliver enjoyed an active social life playing cards, going to dances, watching sport & had many great times with family & friends.Life is not measured by the years you have lived, but by the love you gave & the things you did. Portugal-India relationship full of good waves

21 Jun: Diário de Notícias (Portugal). By Leonídio Paulo Ferreira. The Indian training ship Tarangini returned to Lisbon for three days at anchor in the Tagus. The three-masted sailing ship, whose Hindi name can be translated into Portuguese as "full of waves", became famous in 2003-2004 as the first Indian ship to circumnavigate the globe. However, it is interesting to note that this ship was built in a shipyard in Goa, which was the capital of the Portuguese maritime empire in Asia ... Since the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Lisbon and New Delhi, after the 25th of April 1974, however, Portugal and India have made an effort to think more about the common future than about the shared past ... SIT registered a First Information Report against Former Archaeology Director, Ex-sub-Registrar of Bardez, and Luiza Fernandes, Aitano Fernandes, and Meena Ramakant Naik among others from Durbhat-Ponda in a land grabbing case.
