A self-learning Konkani guide in the Roman script for third generation Goans abroad and visitors to Goa, written by Edward de Lima, was released on March 20 at the Kala Academy.

An alleged case of paedophilia has been unearthed with the arrest of a 71-year-old British national, John Middleton at Colva on March 19. Middleton has been visiting India for the last five years and had been convicted on a similar charge in New Zealand. Lawrence Fernandes (63), a resident of Verem was arrested by the Porvorim police on the same day accused of having sex with a 15-year-old boy. See: http://www.rediff.com/news/2001/mar/20goa1.htm

Goa's traffic police have stated that they will start a drive from 27 March to check the glare of vehicle headlights.

Sarita Carvalho of Rosary High School in Miramar and Uday C Gaunkar of Abhinav Vidyamandir in Mollem have been selected to visit Northumbria in England, to study the British system of education, under the Goa-Northumbria Schools Exchange (GONAS), according to the co-ordinators Emmanuel D'Silva and David Futers.

"In a bid to stop the use of the beachside as an open air toilet, Panaji Municipal Council has deployed its personnel to patrol the more dirtied areas. The ten municipal policemen will keep a vigil on the beach from dawn to about 10 am every day to prevent squatters from using the beach." From the Gomantak Times, 20 March 2001.
