Cliff & Astrid Fernandes, Welling, Kent are pleased to announce the birth of their baby girl "Jessica Sarah Fernandes". She was born at Queen Mary's hospital on Tuesday 13th November 2001 at 11:20pm weighing 6lbs and 7oz."

Lester Lobo (Son of Robert and Gala) has been chosen to represent Australia in the World Futsal 5-a-side Championships to take place in Singapore between 27 Nov -2 Dec. Americo Mergulhao of Caranzalem, has bagged the first prize for his slogan "Sun, Sand and Soul in Harmony" at the contest organised by the Tourism Department on slogans portraying Goa as a tourist destination. The second prize winner says "Goa-where East and West take rest" and third "Goa-The fun never sets".

The Goan NRI cell will act as an interactive body with Goans settled/working abroad, with issues pertaining to investments, services and cultural matters. It will be a fully-fledged facilitation centre and called the Goan NRI Facilitation Centre.

17 Nov. Navhind Times "There has been a drop in the number of charter flights coming to Goa this year. For example, the fortnightly Finair flights from Finland have been cancelled. So also the Dutch flights have been cancelled. We are also seeing a 10 to 15 per cent drop in the sales. Besides there has been a big drop in the normal FIT (Foreign Individual Tourist)…" says SITA manager Ernest Dias.

Bail was granted under the new amendment to the drug laws, to a British national, Nigel John Smith, facing a sentence of 20 years imprisonment for possession of drugs. The new amendment allows leniency based on the quantity of drugs in possession. The maximum penalty is now one year.
