Fred Noronha interviews Mervyn Maciel who sees himself as a Kenyan-born Goan. This septuagenarian loved the African bush, and had a "particular fascination" for the tribes. This week 110-year-old Lucy d'Abreu (nee D'Souza) was named by the Guinness Book of Records as UK's oldest person. She was born in Dharwar and educated at St Joseph's Convent, Belgaum. She attributes her longevity to "my customary sun-downer of brandy and dry ginger ale". The item featured widely in UK Press. Margao Municipal Council librarian Cipriano Andrade suspected the Francis X Pereira of hiding books in his bag and challenged him. Pereira assaulted Andrade with kicks and blows, fracturing his right hand and has been arrested by the Police.
