8 Jun. New York Times. Portuguese passports are now being hawked in Goa as a much desired commodity - a fast track highway to Europe - more specifically the UK via Lisbon. Stuart Fernandes with eight cousins in Lisbon has London as his goal whilst Glaston Luis an engineering student at Goa University, also with cousins in Portugal, will make only a brief stop in Lisbon before heading off for Scotland or London. Moreover Indians with no ties to Goa are also getting through as the Indian and Portuguese-era archives are poorly maintained and their staff vulnerable to bribes Portuguese officials in Goa say. 4 Jun. Time Out. page 63 reproduced the painting that won Chevone Barretto, aged 11, the Young Pavement Artist of the Year competition. Chevone lives in Hanwell and attends Cardinal Wiseman Roman Catholic School, Greenford. She is the daughter of Joelle and Flavian Barretto of Hanwell, West London (ex-Nairobi). 10 Jun. South London Press. Ruby Fernandes, fundraising manager of Nightingale House in Calpham was thrilled when National Lottery host Dale Winton gave a show at the home last Sunday. "He had everyone in fits of laughter. He told us about his life and about what's going on in television. He is clearly so wonderful with elderly people," she said. [Ruby, ex-Panjim, is married to Hilary, ex-Nairobi].

5 Jun. Evening Times (Glasgow). Neil D'Souza, 33, is starring in Midnight's Children at the King's Theatre, Glasgow, this week. Neil's other love is writing - he has already written a play for BBC Radio 4 and is working on a commission with Tricycle Theatre. He is working on a pilot show for a sitcom with Carl Goreham. "Our sitcom is based around an Asian family, and it will have a real Bollywood -type theme. I hope it comes off. It is hard to say which I enjoy most, acting or writing. I love acting and would not want to give it up, but it is not the only thing I can do."

8 Jun. NewsDay (New York). Dr. Agnelo Dias believes that suicide among young South Asians is more common than many mental health professionals realize. He thinks parent-child conflict over cultural values are at the core of many suicides. "Our children in America live in two worlds, one is the world of the parents and one is the outside world," he said. For example, immigrant parents often make sacrifices to start a new life in the United States and support their children's education.
