JOAN PIRES

JOAN DANCES HER WAY TO LONDON’S ROYAL FESTIVAL HALL.
Dance and acting have been with Joan since the age of seven and she ahs progressed from learning, to performing and finally to instructing. At eighteen she, along with her partner Jason, started their own dance school in Goa, teaching and sharing the wonders of DANCE. Ballet, Ballroom, Jazz and Salsa were the main subjects of the Jason and Joan Dance Academy.

In India she has performed extensively, amongst her most memorable being the one at the Miss India contest, 1994.

After five years of teaching and performing in India, Joan progressed to the City University of London, at the Laban Centre, acquiring her BA(Hons.) Dance Theatre, learning the finer techniques of Ballet and Western Contemporary Dance. Additionally, she has also acquired teaching qualifications in Ballroom Dance and is a qualified dance therapist working with adults and children with learning difficulties as well as with elders suffering from dementia.

She currently choreographs and performs all over Europe, mostly in Switzerland, Germany, Brussels and of course England.

Her most recent choreography is to be staged on the 1st & 2nd August, at the Royal Festival Hall. It is a performance she is proud of because it deals with her roots: India.
