PARENT TRAP

New BBC programme

Dear Eddie,

We are currently starting production on a new BBC series called The Parent Trap and would like to spread the word across the Goan community.

The Parent Trap is a series of 6 observational documentaries looking at the relationship between young adults (25-35) and their parents. The show will examine the differences between the two generations in fields such as world view, life experiences, life styles, expectations and everyday life.

Each programme will follow a family as the parents come and spend a week living their son/daughter’s life. They will have to move in with their son/daughter and live with them for a week according to his/her rules.

We filmed a pilot before Christmas which was aired on BBC3 in February as part of their season on Families. It followed a young Green party member and his parents for a week. It was very informative, sweet and funny. Over the course of the week the parents realised that they knew very little of their son’s everyday life and got to find out what it was that he did at work, what he did with his friends when they spent time together and what his dreams and hopes were. In the meantime, the son came to realise that his parents’ more conservative opinions had been forged by a very different life to his own rather than by narrow mindedness.

The programme led to a deeper understanding between the family members and was fascinating to watch. In the upcoming series we are hoping to approach a wide range of situations in order to explore the main family issues and maybe bridge the generation gap.

I was hoping you might be able to help by maybe circulating some information about the programme. I’ve attached a small BBC3 logo and a selection of appeals for participants in case you might be able to use them. Let me know if there is anything else I could possibly send you or if you would like more information.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Many thanks and kind regards,

Sophie Gozlan

Documentaries & Arts:
Parent Trap
More and more adults are continuing to live with their parents into their twenties and beyond, often sticking to the nest until they've got enough of a nest egg to buy a place of their own.

Dubbed 'kippers' (kids in parents' pockets eroding retirement savings), they often relate to their parents as little more than lodgers getting a sweet deal - and some parents are paying for them to move out. At the other end of the spectrum, Leicester University is inviting parents to get a taste of the life their fleeing offspring will be experiencing. But what do parents and their children really know about each other?

The 'Happy Families' season continues with The Parent Trap, which reveals what happens to one family when mum and dad infiltrate the life of their 25-year-old son...

As adults, we learn to take control of our own lives, making our own rules and decisions. But, when it comes to dealing with our parents, even a simple phone call home to mum and dad can lead to otherwise sane and rational adults reverting to typical teenage behaviour with tantrums and sulks aplenty.

This programme finds out how one family copes when a young man’s parents spend an entire week living his life - that means living in the same cramped flat, going to work with him, going out with his mates and even trying to get him and his ex-girlfriend back together.

As dad (complete with embarrassing dance moves) hits the clubs and mum decides it’s high time she had a word with the boss at work, The Parent Trap captures every moment and reveals that both ‘sides’ have some surprises up their sleeves. But will it bring the family closer together or simply serve to widen the generation gap?
