GOA NEWS HEADLINES
mainly from Joel D'Souza in Goa, courtesy of GOACOM

When the non-resident Goan or for that matter a resident Indian comes to Goa with the desire to start a venture in Goa everyone in the political establishment and the bureaucracy does everything possible to discourage if not disgust him or her… The experience of those who have taken the Chief Minister at his word and have dropped in to see him has been horrendous… Goans are fatalistically resigned to the fact that it will take days if not months to get anything done in Goa. But non-resident Goans are utterly and totally frustrated by the endless waiting. Herald 1 Feb. Full text at: http://www.oherald.com/newherald/newsEDN.asp?qId=401&qSec=EDN&qNType=R

26 Jan. Calgary Herald. A poem published in a recent edition of Calgary's Good Morning News perpetuates negative stereotypes of immigrants in Canada, say some members of the city's ethnic community. Written as a satirical first-person account by an immigrant, the poem describes the ease of an immigrant's life living off welfare, having bills paid for him, and bringing 14 families to Canada, all in broken English. However, Suneel D'Souza said the poem was intended to be light-hearted, and not meant to offend anyone. "My parents came here from India with very little and I'd like to consider that they've made it," he said.
