16 Aug: The Observer (UK). First stop: Goa. A friend had found a house in Patnem village, south of Palolem. Less the old Portuguese colonial with big verandas that we had hoped for, more three bare rooms, a cold shower and a Baby Belling for a kitchen. But it was right on the beach and at only £5 a night, living with a little less heritage was tolerable… 886 words. click here

Foster grandparent program honors local volunteers … Xavier D'Souza of Glen Burnie has been working with the children for three years… D'Souza, 83, is from Goa, now part of India, and worked in Kenya for 32 years before joining his daughter in Severna Park 20 years ago… he is enjoying the chance to volunteer despite a knee surgery that has him using a cane.
