31 Mar: Mombasa, Kenya. BERNIE CARVALHO. Aged 80. Brother of late Benny, late Bruno, Clavia Correa (London), Celia Pinto (Canada), Clarice D'Souza (London) and Cybele Noronha (Canada). The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, 3 April at 4 pm at the Holy Ghost Cathedral, Mombasa, followed by burial at Mbaraki Cemetery. Condolences to Celia Pinto,uujohnpi@gmail.com




Las Vegas: Melque Rodrigues combines her love of food and music

Melque Rodrigues performs nightly in her Las Vegas restaurant, Namaste Indian Cuisine which she owns … Rodrigues is a Goan who made her way to the United States in 2005 in an attempt to pursue a singing career. British MP Keith Vaz to act in film


4 Apr: Times of India. Leicester East MP Keith Vaz has been given a role in an international film currently being filmed in his constituency. The movie Jadoo (Magic) is about two brothers who set up rival restaurants on opposite sides of Belgrave Road, Leicester ... Vaz will appear alongside legendary chef Madhur Jaffrey as a judge for a cooking competition between the brothers. Vaz will receive no fee for his appearance. click here.

That was the old name of the Simba Union club dropped when President Moi decreed a ban on all tribal associations in the early years of his reign some three decades ago. This might also see other sporting and cultural clubs in the same neighbourhood revert to their ‘real’ names. Premier Club will dust-off and re-plant the Patel Club signboard. 1 Apr: Sunday Tribune (South Africa). Panaji restaurant in Durban North is the third Panaji restaurant in SA. The first came about after retired Durban engineer Bala Gangiah and his wife took a trip to Goa and fell in love with the area's unique style of cooking. When he returned to Durban after their Goan odyssey, they started experimenting with recipes and the outcome was the opening of their first restaurant on the Bluff.
