Death: Roque Rodrigues


1 Oct. Kampala, Uganda. ROQUE XAVIER RODRIGUES (Born 1959). Son of Teresa Rodrigues and the late Luciano Rodrigues. Husband to Perpetua Rodrigues. Brother to the late Richard Rodrigues, Ruth and Renee. Father to Luciana. Brother-in-law to Tony Fernandes, Brian J. D'souza. Uncle to Wayne, Karl, Richard, and Jayden. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday 3rd October at 10.30 am at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Uganda Road, Eldoret followed by burial at the cemetery in Kisumu, Eldoret. 2 Oct: Navhind Times. The bakers sought to increase the price of the pao from Rs. 2.50 to Rs 4. The government has proposed to give Rs 1 subsidy to the bakers if they sell the bread at Rs 3. The proposal was given by the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar at a meeting held with the association of the bakers late on Tuesday evening … Even as the bakers (poders as they are better known as in Goa) were trying to ensure that they get better returns for the bread supplied by them, a fight appeared to have broken between the traditional bakers over pricing of bread...  click here

1 Oct: IBN. The man who flushed out terrorists from the Golden Temple, Punjab, in 1984, Lt General KS Brar, aged 78, survived a bid on his life in the Oxford Street area, London on Monday. Lt General KS Brar told CNN-IBN that he would've died had he not fought off his assailants. While returning to his hotel with his wife after dinner, he was set upon by reportedly three bearded men, who slashed him on the throat with knives… The London police are investigating but no arrests have been made so far. 2m. 21s.  click here

Goa govt launches inflation allowance for housewives

Keith Vaz: “Extreme” mortgage bill was more than seven times higher than pay
2 Oct: Daily Telegraph (UK). Keith Vaz was making “extreme” payments for mortgages totalling up to £26,500 a month, more than seven times higher than his income as a back-bench MP, according to a secret police report into the former minister’s finances. Scotland Yard detectives allegedly found that the former Europe minister had “in total seven or eight mortgages” between 1996 and 2001, with four loans running concurrently at one point… 617 words.  click here
