17 Oct: IANS. Carmen Miranda, through her London-based Save Goa Campaign UK (SGCUK), has caught the attention of a wide swathe of members of the British parliament. Chief among them is Labour MP John Mcdonnell (photo with Miranda), who has so far tabled two motions in parliament co-sponsored by a score of fellow MPs… On Oct 15, chaired by MP John McDonnell, a meeting was held at the Portculis House, an annexe of the Houses of Parliament. Dinesh D'Souza: Sleazy Anti-Obama Film Maker Caught in Sex Scandal

Dinesh D'Souza, a conservative scholar behind a high-grossing documentary that condemns President Barack Obama is under investigation by the evangelical college he leads over a report about sharing a hotel room with a woman he introduced as his fiancee. UAE: Ruler's nephew killed in Goa road accident
18 Oct: The National (Dubai). The body of Sheikh Saqr, 46, who was killed in a road accident in Goa on Sunday night, has been laid to rest in Ajman. He was a prominent Emirati businessman and the Ruler of Ajman's nephew. He was killed after the scooter he was riding crashed into a sign on the Sinquerim-Candolim motorway … He leaves behind a wife and nine children, four boys and five girls… Sheikh Saqr, the son of Sheikha Fatima bint Rashid Al Nuaimi, had travelled to Mumbai with a friend last Wednesday to receive medical treatment… Text + photo.  click here

‘Surrogacy visa’ for foreigners visiting India
18 Oct: Gulf News (Dubai). Foreigners visiting India for surrogacy purposes can only travel on medical visas, the Indian Consulate has said… The Indian Consulate said tourist visas are issued to foreign couples for reconnaissance trips but no samples can be given to any clinic during the preliminary visit. Subsequently, it should take a few days before the medical visa is issued…  click here

Workers compensated at the Faber-Castell Factory in Goa
17 Oct: Building & Woodworkers International (BWI) USA. The BWI has been working closely with the Goa Union at the Faber-Castell (FC) Factory in Goa where the Management decided in June 2011 to close the factory after a fire. BWI took up the matter with the Faber Castell management in Germany. Finally, on January 17th 2012 – an agreement was reached to re-start the production facilities … BWI sought the Management’s intervention to provide wages to workers to compensate them for the delay in the commencement of production …  click here
