Death: Dorothy D'Costa

21 Dec: Hounslow, UK. DOROTHY APOLONIA D'COSTA. née D'Souza. Born in Kampala, Uganda; ex Catholic Parochial School, Nairobi. Wife of Patrick; mother of Rodney, Everard & Marina; grandmother of Kimberly, Kelly, Yasmin, Edouard, Charles & Pierre. The funeral mass will be held at St. Michael & St. Martin's Church, 94 Bath Road, Hounslow TW3 3EH on Wednesday 14th January at 10 a.m. followed by a cremation at South West Middlesex Crematorium, Hounslow Road, Hanworth Feltham TW13 5JH. A wake will be held afterwards, venue to be confirmed. At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made by cheque to a stroke charity payable to "West Middlesex University Hospital Charitable fund" via The Co-Operative Funeralcare Directors, 35 Bath Road, Hounslow, Middlesex TW3 3BN. Wife of the late Felix William Menezes, loving mother of Joseph/Yvonne, Newton, Bridget/Luis and Christina/Jamie. Devoted and cherished grandmother to David/Kasia, Claude/Nurani, Daniel and Annabel. Funeral Mass to be celebrated at St Anslems Church, 9 Tooting Bec Road, London SW17 8BS on Monday, 12th January 2015 at 10am, followed by a burial at Wandsworth Cemetery, Magdalen Road, London SW18 3NP. Passed away peacefully. 'Miracle son,' eager for canonization of Blessed Vaz

30 Dec: Catholic Sentinel (USA). The enthusiasm of Father Cosme Jose Costa to Pope Francis' canonization of Blessed Joseph Vaz on Jan. 14 stands apart. "It is Blessed Joseph Vaz's intercession that saved my life, and I look forward with deep gratitude (to) this great event," said Father Costa, a 76-year-old member of the Society of Pilar based in Goa, Blessed Vaz's home state. Father Costa's 1938 birth was accepted by the Vatican as the miracle needed to beatify Blessed Vaz in 1995… "More than 1,000 Goans are also traveling to Sri Lanka for the same," Father Costa said… Since 1997, he added, the Goa Archdiocese has sent the Vatican details of 21 miraculous healings and births to childless couple due to the intercession Blessed Vaz. 617 words.  click here

Modi government to merge PIO and OCI cards

The government has quietly readied yet another ordinance — this one to merge the PIO and OCI cards — to make good a promise made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visits to the US and Australia when he vowed to make it easier for the Indian diaspora to connect with their homeland. Girl dies after alleged drug overdose at Goa’s Electronic Music Festival

30 Dec: The Hindu. 27-year-old Isha Mantry, from Mumbai, died after attending the Supersonic Electronic dance music (EDM) at Candolim in North coastal belt on Monday night… a group of 12 people had accompanied her on this trip. Three of Isha's friends told police that she was on heavy antibiotics due to migraine. She was also said to be heavily intoxicated with beer at the EDM… This is second such case as a couple of years back, a Bengaluru-based girl was suspected to have died of drug overdose at Sun Burn EDM festival.  click here

Mining: Implementing Intergenerational Equity in Goa
