Death: Maria Lourdes Lobo

18 Nov: Vancouver, Canada. MARIA BERNADETTE LOURDES LOBO. Ex-Uganda. Born 1916 in Goa. Maria was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Silvester (PWD & Makerere University), and grandson Brian. She is survived by her children Bernadette (Justin), Raoul (Ingrid), Edna (Joe) and Cecil; grandchildren Clyde (Debbie), Joel (Amaya), Samantha (Pete), Lisa (Nathan), Michelle (Casey) and Natalie; and six great-grandchildren Matthew, Rachel, Daniel, Bethan, Tristan, and Kalissa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at All Saints Parish, 821 Fairfax Street, Coquitlam. Entombment to follow at Ocean View Burial Park, South Mausoleum in Burnaby. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of B.C. would be appreciated. She is married to Fortunato Barretto, formerly of Kampala, Uganda and Nairobi; Mother of Charlotte / Edward, Cheryl (Nairobi) and Shaun / Cora-Lisa; grand-mother of Matthew and Nicola. She writes: "To my astonishment Pope Francis called me saying 'Come, Come'. While I was in two minds I ran to the car and grabbed His left hand kissed it and ran back to my seat and cried in shock."

Fr Lucas Rodrigues: A divine message through tiatr

Maria Lynch's Beneath the African Sun

25 Nov: Author Maria Lynch has unravelled the complex history of Kenya through the eyes of a young Goan in her first novel, Beneath the African Sun. More than a history, this is a story about family, home, social justice, and what it means to truly belong somewhere. The book follows Sabby Mendes as he leaves Goa aboard the dhow Monsoon Wind bound for British East Africa in 1916. Sabby has one dream—to find work as a tailor. Swindon Hospital: Goans visited colleagues in their homes and threatened their children

27 Nov; Swindon Advertiser (UK). Goan members of the GMB union at Swindon’s Great Western Hospital visited colleagues in their homes and threatened their children, claimed former senior supervisor Christine Woods at an industrial tribunal… she also claimed that Carillion workers at the hospital had been intimidated into joining the union… Her voice trembling with emotion and at times holding her head in her hands she said she did not understand why people she had worked with were now telling lies about her…“I refuse to divulge any names because there is fear in the community,” Ms Woods said … she denied that she was a racist and said that she had even gone to her MP to help get someone into the country… Cross examination of Ms Woods is expected to end today … 664 words.  click here

In contempt of Goan decency and Indian democracy

Goa most favoured to usher in New Year: Skyscanner

27 Nov: Voyagers World. Goa emerged as a hot favourite among Indian and international travellers to ring in the New Year, as per a survey by Skyscanner. The study witnessed a 91% rise in domestic searches to Goa and a 63% rise in International searches during the same travel period (26 December 2015 to 3 January 2016) as compared to the week before… A surge in travel searches to Goa during the last week of December is indicative of this trend since a slew of big international music festivals, including Sunburn Goa 2015, is taking place during the same time period…  click here
