Death: Cornelio (Connie) Braganza

12 Oct: Angod, Mapusa, Goa. CORNELIO (CONNIE) JOSEPH BRAGANZA. Born 16 Sep. 1946; ex-Muscat. Son of late Joseph Simplicio Braganza and Maria Gilberte Angelina Antao. Son in law of late Manoelinho/Anacleta Preto (Lankdem, Aldona.). Husband of late Feliciana Paulina Braganza. Father/Father in law of Nabila/Savio D’Souza (Muscat); Vanila/Oscar D’Souza (Dubai) and Jovila/Anson Sequeira (Bahrain). Grandfather of Melody, Clef and Harmony D’Souza, Dion D’Souza and Drake and Mia Sequeira. Funeral cortege leaves residence, Raja Apts, Angod, Mapusa on 13th October 2016 at 4.00 p.m. to St. Jerome Church, Mapusa for Eucharistic celebration and burial.  For further details click here

Cyril Almeida Who Wrote of Military-Civilian Clash Says He Can’t Leave Pakistan

11 Oct: New York Times. A well-known Pakistani journalist said on Tuesday that he had been barred from leaving the country, days after he wrote that civilian officials had confronted the military over what they called a failure to act against Islamist groups. Cyril Almeida, a widely read columnist for Dawn, Pakistan’s leading daily, said on Twitter that he had been placed on the “exit control list,” a roster of people forbidden to leave the country. The news caused an uproar on social media, and other journalists denounced the move, which was confirmed by a government official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not allowed to talk to the news media… 567 words.  click here

Goa demands inclusion of its Western Ghats stretch in world heritage

12 Oct: Business Standard. The Goa government today revived its demand to include the stretch of Western Ghats traversing through the state in the coveted list of World Heritage sites by UNESCO. The crucial meeting of Goa State Board for Wildlife which was chaired by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar decided to put up a proposal to include areas of Western Ghats in the state in the list of World Heritage sites.
