13 Sep: London. TEREZINHA BRAGANCA e MIRANDA. Ex Margao, Goa. Born 1 Feb 1944. Beloved wife of Jose Vaz do Rosario Miranda. Loving mother/mother-in-law of Miguel/Selma & Carlos. Doting grandmother of Isabelle. Daughter of late Eulalia / late Manuel Braganca, Daughter-in- law of late Maria / late Dr. Miguel de Miranda. Sister/sister-in-law of late Mario/late Liberia, late Vasco / Nirga, & Ivo/Pamela, Sister-in-law of late Zito, Fr.Antonio (London), Sr. Maria (FMM), Francisco (Chico)/Marioneta, Roque/Doris, Jose Maria/Milena, Fatima/Caetano, Angelo/Sarita. 7 Sep: Sutton, Surrey, UK. GEORGE DE SOUZA. With great sadness, we announce that our dearest father/in-law/grandfather passed away peacefully on Thursday 7th September 2017 aged 95 years. George was from (Attafondem) Moira and was married to the beloved late Luiza (nee Louzado) from Aldona. His siblings were Joseph (Moira), Willie (Aden) Julie (Moira) and Bernadette (UK), all of whom pre-deceased him. George arrived in the UK in 1965 ex Nairobi, Kenya. He lived in Portugal for 25 years and is survived by his son Ayres/Ginette and granddaughters Anna and Mariella/Andrew. A much loved daughter Anita died in 1987. Goan girl wins Pastry Queen India 2017

14 Sep: Indian Express. Goa girl Eureka Araujo, 27, has won the second Pastry Queen India contest that was held there with the participation of five women chefs from across the country. The winner studied hotel management at the Institute of Hotel Management, Goa and went on to pursue her management training with the Taj group hotels for two years after the course… Araujo will now receive training at Academy of Pastry Arts to further hone her skills and to represent India at the Ladies World Pastry Championship in Rimini, Italy in January 2018…  click here

Liquor baron Vijay Mallya set to return to court in UK

14 Sep: Eastern Eye (UK). Embattled liquor baron Vijay Mallya is set to return to court in London on 15 Sept. for a hearing in his ongoing extradition case over economic offences in India. The 61-year-old businessman is out on bail on an extradition warrant executed by Scotland Yard on behalf of the Indian authorities in April. He had been exempt from appearing before Westminster Magistrates’ Court for case management hearings by chief magistrate Emma Louise Arbuthnot before his trial begins on December 4. However, his legal team had indicated to the court that Mr Mallya, wanted in India over a default on loans worth around Rs. 9,000 crores (£1 billion) to his now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines, likes to be present at the hearings…  click here

Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida calls for etiquette among cabbies

14 Sep: Times of India. The Airport Advisory Committee (AAC) which met on Wednesday discussed issues pertaining to taxi operators, land for parking of vehicles and others. Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida has asked the airport authorities to educate tourist taxi drivers on etiquette… He said this was very important in the backdrop of recent cases and complaints that passengers have reported involving unruly behaviour and fights among drivers over passengers… Airport Director BCH Negi, officials from transport, tourism departments as well as others were also present.  click here

Goa aims to be among top 25 start-up hubs in Asia by 2025

14 Sep: Indian Express. The Goa government unveiled a start-up policy that aims to make the coastal state feature among the top 25 destinations for early stage companies in Asia by 2025. The `Goa start-up policy’ was approved at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar (photo). “The idea behind having a start-up policy is to create employment in Goa and stop brain drain from the state,” said Information Technology Minister Rohan Khaunte. He was talking to reporters in the presence of Parrikar after the Cabinet meeting. The policy document, circulated to the media after the meeting, envisages to make Goa one of the most preferred start-up hubs of India, and make it feature in the top 25 start-up destinations in Asia by 2025…  click here
