Funeral Notice: Melvyn Fernandes (London, ex Nairobi)

The Requiem Mass for Melvyn Fernandes (London, ex Nairobi) who sadly passed away on 27th April 2022 will take place on Wednesday 1st June 2022 at 12.10 pm at St Mary's Church, 70 Wellesley Road, Croydon, Surrey CR0 2AR. The service will be streamed and can be viewed live or later through the church website https://mcnmedia.tv/camera/st-marys-catholic-church-our-lady-of-reparation-croydon Please note there is limited parking at the church and the nearest rail station is West Croydon. Following Mass, Melvyn will be cremated at Croydon Crematorium, East Chapel, Mitcham Road, Croydon, CR9 3AT at 2.15 pm.
In lieu of flowers there will be a retiring collection in the church to support Melvyn's favoured charity - Kidney Research UK. You can also donate directly via this link: https://melvynfernandes.muchloved.com/
Melvyn was the beloved husband of Rose, son of Maggie & Alex (late) and brother/in law of Audrey/Derrick, Alice, Joe/Samantha, Astrid, Alvin, Arlette and Peter. Son-in-law of Anita / Patrick (late) Abreo and brother-in-law of Alina/Bryan and Edwin/Hazel (late). He was also a much-loved nephew, uncle and great-uncle. Swindon: Attempted murder trial date set for Sezwin Crasto

17 May: Swindon Advertiser. A date has been set for an attempted murder trial after a woman suffered “life changing injuries”. Sezwin Crasto (photo) is charged with attempting to kill the woman on Broad Street on March 21. She was caused “life changing injuries”, but later that week Wiltshire Police confirmed that she was in a stable condition. Crasto, 21 from Broad Street, appeared at Bristol Crown Court last month where he did not enter a plea to the charge… he is due to stand trial on September 12, should he plead not guilty… 174 words.  click here

Swindon: Sexual abuse of second girl shown in images on Trevor Fernandes’ phone, court hears

17 May: Swindon Advertiser. Photos of the sexual abuse of a second young girl were found on a Swindon man’s phone, a court has heard. Trevor Fernandes is currently standing trial accused of threatening to expose sexual images of an American teen … On Tuesday (May 17), Swindon Crown Court heard pictures of the sexual abuse of another girl had been found in the same encrypted partition of his Samsung Galaxy phone … It was also heard that an “extremely vulnerable” girl had come forward to police claiming to be sexually abused by a man who called himself Trevor and used the same Kik and Instagram accounts that the American’s abuser used – namely ‘cuteandstrict’ and ‘Reckitt03’… ‘Trevor’ knew the British girl had a history of mental health issues and was self-harming at the time… The trial continues … 602 words.  click here

He was born there in 1988. The de Souzas have eight children. Jordan moved to Montreal at age 17 to train in music… 12 years later he was conducting 50 performances a year in Berlin … Eighteen performances will bring Jordan de Souza to Glyndebourne between June 11 and August 14. Public transport systems in Goa – scope for improvements

17 May: Herald... Everything is wrong in all public transport modes in Goa… For example, one may need Rs 1000/1500 to come by train from say 800–100 km but may need the same amount, if not more to go to 40 Km from railway station to hotel… Public buses are there but only from terminus to terminus … Taxis are there, but available only at hotels, railway or bus stations, or airports … Auto rickshaws are there but you cannot get the same when and where you need them … Goa does not need yet Rapid Mass Transit system but certainly needs major reforms in all prevailing public transport systems. Every mode of public transport in Goa is engulfed with many historical antecedents… In Goa, the public bus system is in hands of both, public and private operators… 1039 words  click here

Charles Correa Foundation architects urge Goans to demand transparency in Kala Academy renovation work

15 May: Herald. Architects from the Charles Correa Foundation (CCF) urged people of Goa to demand transparency in the repair and renovation work of Kala Academy building… They also demanded the government to display the plan of renovation/repair work that has been outlined by the Public Works Department (PWD)… Tahir Noronha, Convenor of CCF said, “They have learnt through reliable sources that there is discussion of making arbitrary changes to the flooring of Kala Academy… The acoustics of the indoor auditorium which had already been tampered in 2004 are now going to be further interfered with and this time even the Mario Miranda murals may not be spared. Such major changes are threatening to erase the very essence of Kala Academy.” … He alleged that the repair work is going on without taking the verdict of High Court into consideration…  click here
